Dustin Weaver
Penciler & Tough Brawler
What do you do at Knightshift Entertainment?
I basically bring a rough masculinity to the group. If you put Joe, Randy, and myself line up it would be easy to pick me out as the tough brawler. I’m very intimidating, I think. And I know how to throw down ... you know when it’s, urn- when it’s go time...
Whose work inspired you to get into making comics?
Jim Lee. No doubt about it. And I’ve had the good fortune to see him work and be tutored by him. His artistic talent is matched by his work ethic.
What creator would you like to work with?
Doing what? Like building a house or something? Hot Alan Moore, I’ll tell you that much. He may be probably the best comic book writer out there but I’ll bet he’s not to handy when it comes to building a house.
What is the first comic book you ever read?
Um... I really don’t know. I think it was an issue of Legends of the Dark Knight. After the first Batman movie came out I went and bought some Bat books. But, it’s possible I had read a comic before that.
What is your current favorite comic and why?
Um... Ultimates I guess. Good art, good writing... that’s it.
What is your dream comic book job?
My dream comic book job is to work on my own stories... and for them to have an audience.
Pepsi or Coke?
That’s a lame question. For a few reasons. 1: Who cares? 2: Obviously Coke. and 3: Who cares? As far as lame questioner questions go this one is pretty bad. The only question that could be worse is Taco Bell or McDonald’s and I see that one’s just a few questions down.
If you never got into creating comics, what kind of career path would you have taken?
I would have been a turd diver. That’s somene who cleans the grate at the sewer treatment plant .... I just wanted to say turd diver..I’m sorry.
What is your all time favorite movie?
Ah now this is a GOOD lame questioner question, the kind of irrelevant trivial stuff that someone might find interesting. At least this one has to do with storytelling and what possibly influences me as a creator. Anyway, I like all things Woody Allen, David Lynch, Wess Anderson, and Charley Kaufman. On top of that I like Taxi Driver, Fight Club, Dark City, Double Indemnity, Amily, Godard’s Breathless, and lot’s of other stuff too. :)
Who is your favorite comic character?
Well, Batman is good. I always liked Kanada from Akira. And I’ve got to disagree with Randy on this one but I think Wolverine is a good comic character. I would like to do a Wolverine book someday.
Who is your least favorite comic character?
I’m all about the love. There’s no hate here.
If DC comics asked you to write or plot the next 12 months of Superman, what kind of story would you give them?
I don’t know. Pretty much everything has been done with him. So, I wouldn’t try to make my Superman statement, I’d just try to entertain. I’d probably create the most outlandish, wacky, high energy story I could come up with. Tap into the nature of escapism and push it to its limits. My Superman would lead a pretty crazy adventurous life when he’s not masquerading as Clark. And I would tell the entire story from the point of view of Krypto... you know, super dog.
Taco Bell or McDonald’s?
I’m not a fan of either. I don’t eat a lot of fast food. I love Denny’s though. :)
Tell us a little about your live outside of comics.
Anyone who’s really serious about being a comic book artist can tell you there is no life outside of comlcs. It’s all tied into comics. But I’ll tell you I’m not married. I have no kids that I’m aware of, I’m currently living in San Diego, and on occasion I do an online radio show on www.peoplesradio.org.
